Eric King Watts is a rhetorical studies and media scholar who focuses on the production, circulation, and consumption of “voice.” In particular, Watts has published extensively on Black public voice and its invention and suppression. Watts has authored two books, Hearing the Hurt: Rhetoric, Aesthetics, and Politics of the New Negro Movement (U. of Alabama Press, 2012) and Postracial Fantasies and Zombies: On the Racist Apocalyptic Politics Devouring the World (U. California, 2024). Watts has also edited Violent Pasts, Livable Futures: Forging the Power of the People (Michigan State University Press, 2026).
