Dr. James Proszek is an Assistant Teaching Professor, as well as the Director of Public Speaking & the Wake Speaks Center. His teaching and research focus on communication and rhetoric as a critical/cultural practice with a special focus on artificial intelligence, media literacies, and digital technologies. Dr. Proszek has taught classes in oral communication, rhetoric of comics and graphic novels, digital rhetoric, global foundations of rhetorical theory, and AI & automation in communication.
Before joining Wake Forest, Dr. Proszek was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana for three years. He also served as a Program Associate for the Wabash Democracy & Public Discourse Center (WDPD), a co-curricular civic engagement program specializing in community-based dialogue and deliberation around topics of public interest. In his work with WDPD, Dr. Proszek designed and conducted dozens of deliberations in local communities throughout Indiana. His past and current appointments reflect Dr. Proszek’s passion for and commitment to communication as a central practice of building and sustaining engaged communities.
